New Story: We Had Today ›

Additional Tags: [M/M Shipping][Bittersweet]

As Hearts and Hooves day rolls around, Flintlock goes about his ritual of cleaning the attic - or at least, that’s his excuse to the rest of the family. It’s also a time to dig out his old uniforms and bits of nostalgia and… to look at pictures. Passion may only last a moment, but love can last a lifetime.

Well… my muses did it to me again. There I am, sitting with a story that just needs revisions, and they go, “No! We want you to work on this!” I suppose ultimately, they know best. You can consider this my Hearts’n’Hooves day contribution I think.

I apologize that it’s so short, but I suppose some stories… don’t need long to tell. I can’t afford to get cover art for it right now, but that will come later I think. In the meantime though, I hope you enjoy the story.

Fair warning, this story is “bittersweet.” It… doesn’t quite fit the sad tag, but it isn’t… well, you’ll see.

We Had Today” - inspired by the song of the same name, from the sountrack of “One Day.”

Goodwill x Butterscotch Cream gift art

“I have two wings, though I can’t fly.
Perhaps I’ll never paint the sky.
But just the same, I’m happy too,
For I’m content, down here, with you.”

So, a friend of mine saw my post bubbling over about the guard pony I call Goodwill. For those of you who missed that post, it’s the guard pony delivering the message in the first five minutes of the Season 3 premier of FiM.

He decided to take it upon himself to make the image you see, and I loved it so much I wrote the poem to go with it. He gave me permission to add the poem to the image, but I’ve included a version both with and without. I’m really thrilled by this - it’s absolutely excellent work.

For those who feel it’s a little silly to go gaga over a cartoon character, you’re absolutely right, it is. I admit I don’t really mind being a little silly. But, I guess in some ways, Goodwill is a symbol of who I hope to have someday in real life. So, hopefully y’all won’t begrudge me a few warm fuzzies from this till that time and that person comes.

If you like this image, he’s got a lot more. Please please please check out his dA account: pyrestorm

Story Update: Fort Duhl
This is why civilized places have weather teams,” Longfeather grumbled, staring out the tower’s window with a face as glum and irritable as the churning thunderheads above it. Fort Duhl once had a flag atop its tower, but after fizzling through about a dozen or so national banners and half as many reprimands from the Guard Supply Depot, Longfeather and Polearm decided to use one of their under-employed spears as a lightning rod. Longfeather immediately discovered it worked very well. As if to flaunt the unpleasant memory, one of the clouds flashed a bolt into the jungle nearby, doubtlessly frying some wretched tree. Everything about this place was unfriendly, dank and dark.

An excerpt from the WiP story, “Fort Duhl,” which is currently about 80% complete, proofreading passes notwithstanding.

A Guard Named Goodwill

I’m sorry. I know I’ve been posting more frequently than usual, and they haven’t been story-updates. However, this… this required attention. I’ve been avoiding S3 spoilers like the plague, but accidentally happened across a screenshot and my brain stopped.

Warning! Season 3 Spoiler Image!

I felt like my heart was having a seizure. If ever there was love at first sight, this is it. This guy shot above Shining Armor, and maybe even Big Macintosh for me.

It doesn’t matter what anyone else calls him. They can call him what they like, but to me he’s “Goodwill,” and his friends call him Will. I don’t even know why I love this guard so much. Just, his expression, his eyes, everything about him says, “This is why I love guard ponies.” I seriously felt an overload of something, and I had to stop looking at the image.

I’m in this far too deep.

And if my next post is not about the first chapter of a Big Mactintosh fanfic being posted, feel free to… poke me or something.

fuzebox said: Hi! Someone suggested that I let you know that I drew some fan-art for one of your oldest stories. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed your story (though I doubt that).

Haha! I’m thrilled! Do you know how often I get fan-art? Almost never! I think this is the second… maybe third time someone has done fan-art of a story for me!

Keep on with your work! Don’t put yourself or your work down. Anyone who knows me, knows that my motto is “If you always do your best, your best can only get better.” It takes me hours and hours of work to do a picture that people could even call “decent,” let alone “good,” but I still practice when I can! I think it’s great that you have the time and willingness to invest in it.

Thank you so much for this! I really appreciate both that you enjoyed the story, and you found inspiration for your work with it! When an author sees that people appreciate his writing, it’s a very big compliment and at least speaking for myself (and I’m sure many other authors), it’s heartwarming each time! *hugs*

I’ve Got a Little List: Updated

For those of you who are interested, I’ve updated my recent satire post “I’ve Got a Little List.” I revised some of the verses that I felt weren’t quite fitting with the theme, and added a few new ones, along with some thoughts that originally inspired me to write it in the introduction. You can find the post at the link below - if you’re not interested, feel free to ignore this. Yes - I was a windbag, as always, hehe.

I am not under any delusions whatsoever of being an “artist.” This is rough, it’s incomplete (at best), and it took me forever. This was drawn on a Viliv S7, which is kind of like a miniature tablet computer. Sadly, it does not have pressure sensitivity (and it shows). Don’t look too close or you’ll see the plethora of errors I left in there. I’m still a beginner when it comes to lighting and shading and everything. That being said, I sat down tonight and thought, “I want to draw a pony.” And I did. Or at least I tried. This is the result - maybe someday I’ll get better! Now you have to ask yourself, what is he watching?
“…..do you see it?”
