The Colour You Bleed (Story Recommendation) ›

Lest you think that this is a sudden change of tone from the post I made a few minutes ago, I should note that it was written last night as I waited for the artist’s permission to post the modified image. This post is very serious.

I don’t post often, which some may be thankful for and some may wonder why they keep me on their follow list since I hardly put anything up except when posting tidbits here and here… either way, I figured since I do have this means available to me, I would use it to alert you all to something you might’ve seen in a post I reblogged a while ago from BillyColt.

The summary of the story, “The Colour You Bleed,” is that Blueblood goes through an experience that matures him from the brat we all know to a stallion… somehow, that summary doesn’t seem to do it justice. This story touches on a lot of things that I personally believe are vital to anyone’s life, no matter who you are, where you live or when.

This story does not just deserve to be read, it needs to be read. Especially by people in this fandom, I would dare to say, because many of the things addressed in this story are exactly why said “fandom” is falling apart. I was thinking of writing a story to try and address it, but why should I, when I have just read something that expresses it so clearly? Many of us are more like Blueblood than we would like to think or realize, and this story hits home. I don’t even need to say how well-written it is. The story and the message it bears is moving enough, even aside from its excellence.

This story isn’t good because it’s about ponies. This story is good because it contains an element of truth. We don’t have to be haughty princes to learn from it.

I felt I was too busy to read this story for a long time. And now that I’ve read it, I feel like I put it off for far too long.
